Florrie Forde was a music hall artist born in Melbourne who performed all her life – literally. She collapsed and died from a cerebral haemorrhage after singing for troops in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1940.

Forde released 700 individual recordings between 1903 and 1936. She had a powerful stage presence and specialised in songs with memorable choruses, which the audience was encouraged to join in. She was at the height of her fame during the First World War.

Every Girl Is a Fisher Girl - lyrics

I’ve heard it said before

That girls of every shore

Know how to serve up lots of dainty dishes

But when it comes to sport

At least so I’ve been taught

They say they are no good at catching fishes

I don’t know whether the girls are good at catching fish or not

The say that they can’t angle when I think that’s Tommy rot

Every girl is a fisher girl

Fishing for this and fishing for that

All the married girls are fishing ‘round their husbands

For a nice, new hat

Every girl is a fisher girl

And when she’s fishing for a mate

There’s always lots of fellows everywhere

Who want to come and nibble at the bait

Every girl is a fisher girl

Fishing for this and fishing for that

All the married girls are fishing ‘round their husbands

For a nice, new hat

Every girl is a fisher girl

And when she’s fishing for a mate

There’s always lots of fellows everywhere

Who want to come and nibble at the bait
